I plan on running this bypass oil filter;
http://www.thedieselpage.com/reviews/dualbypass.htm
Can I place this in the engine compartment (perhaps firewall or fender behind battery) or does it have to be lower, like how it is placed in the article along the frame?
I have mine on the left inner fender, but mine is a 1993. It does not have to be mounted low.
Would this kit from summit do the same thing as the amsoil?

No.
It specifically states "Diesel compatible = NO". The Summit kit is only a filter relocation kit, and NOT a bypass-type kit.

Yeah, I guess I missed that part.
So, dumb question then, what makes the amsoil filter rail different than the relocation one? Isn't the "bypass" in the filter itself? Help me understand how all this works!

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION (http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/eabp.aspx)
AMSOIL Ea By-Pass Oil Filters (EaBP) provide the best possible filtration protection against wear and oil degradation. Working in conjunction with the engine’s full-flow oil filter, AMSOIL Ea By-Pass Filters operate by filtering oil on a “partial-flow” basis. They draw approximately 10 percent of the oil pump’s capacity at any one time and trap the extremely small, wear-causing contaminants that full-flow filters can’t remove. The AMSOIL Ea By-Pass Filter typically filters all the oil in the system several times an hour, so the engine continuously receives analytically clean oil........Visit the Amsoil website for more info. I can't explain it any better than this.
Thank you for your response. I understand what it does, I was curious as to how it does it. The reason I suppose is that i have seen set-ups that appear to be using the filter re-locater that I mentioned above with and without amsoil filters (15 micron and 2 micron) being advertised by amsoil dealers as dual bypass oil filter kits. So, I guess my question is; will this do the same thing as the amsoil kit?

Thank you for your help on this.

That will do exactly what the amsoil kit does, but you will have to fab the bracket yourself It has the filter relocating head, and the dual filter head. The filters pictured appear to be amsoil filters. (Especially considering he has a link to his amsoil store in the If you are industrious and good with a search engine you can get all the parts pictured for around 50.00 minus the filters, He is using cheap universal filter heads with thread adapters.
I disagree the ebay filter head is a perma-cool unit and the 2 filters are in parallel and same pressure drop across in and out ports for each filter. The flow will not be split or encouraged to go through the finer filter. Will some go through it ... some maybe but ????? Amsoil as advertised approx. 10% will go through the finer filter. Perma cool does not advertise this. Oil will take the path of least resistance and flow through the std filter for the most part with the finer filter basically holding oil. Will some go through it maybe but not 10% appreciably less. There are a few different threads on this in the 6.5 forum.
The amsoil unit has a restrictor for the std filter that will increase pressure differential across the finer filter to encourage flow through it.
Watch the hose size diesel's (15w-40 oil) require 1/2 or No. 8 hose as minimum size. Bigger is better. That summit kit is probably 3/8 or No. 6 hose or smaller for gassers. Perma cool does have pieces with 1/2 NPT and ok for diesel. I am running one. Also Mount it as close to the filter base on engine as possible.
