What's the trick for swapping out front rotors on a 1999 K2500? i have been able to get to rotor/hub out of the knuckle, but can't figure out how to separate them. The Chevy service manual says to 'remove the rotor from the hub', but that's it. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

From what I recall, you have to remove the studs - I used an old 'sacrificial' lug nut on them to pound them out. To reinstall them, you can either pound the back sides in or draw them in with large flat washers and a lug nut. Just make sure the serrations are lined up - don't ask how I know this!

Hope that helps. Joe.

I had a hunch that was the 'school solution', but I was too chicken to try it yesterday. If removed carefully (?), are the studs reusable?

Thanks

You can reuse them, but if you damage them they are cheap at your FLAPS.

Thanks! I got the job done, and it was less ugly than I feared. Feels like a different truck. I didn't realize how much nasty rotors and pads would cause the brake pedal to go 'long'. Amazing difference. Next, pitman and idler arms. The steering is sloppy, and I found some noticeable play in the steering linkage with the wheels off. Another dirty job, I'm sure, but also another step toward getting this 'Burb just right.

Thanks again.

this is where I am with my K1500 suburban.
it looked like that's what had to happen, but I searched here HOPING that wasn't the way to do it.

oh well, bright side is I think I found my 60-80 mph shaking.
the left halfshaft doesn't seem right.
