i have a 1978 gnc step side with a 5.7L 350. its got a six inch lift with 3/4 ton axels. i want to throw the 350 in the junker and slam a diesel into my truck. now i the thing is what motor,tranny, and transfer case to use, i keep hearing the best is the 6.2L or the 12 valve cummins (even thow its a dodge motor). also what parts and price range would i be in for the conversion. thanx if you would rrather talk on the phone let me know and i give you the #.

well with the dodge cummins you would either need adapter for tranny or dodge tranny,new mounts for frame (avalanche engineering makes a crossmember for the chevy to use dodge cummins) along with radiator and everything else to fit a cummins.....

6.2 bolts to your stock tranny with stock motor mounts pretty much a direct swap

diference here is

6.2 detroit=120-200hp (stock to modified)
5.9cummins=160-1000hp(stock to modified)

the dodges have a TON of aftermarket support while the 6.2s do not also the cummins is a nearly bullet proof motor that can handle huge turbos nitrous etc etc etc while the 6.2 is more of a workhorse motor that will get good mpg
