View Full Version : AMG new engine ?
When AMG displayed their new 6.5 that had the intergrated maincaps/girdle. Was the block still left the same? And if it is, could this REAL girdle be retro fitted to any 6.2/6.5 block? If that is the case, does anyone know if the girdle can be purchased seperately? Is there any current part# break down from AMG for newer parts available?

the girdle won't fit an older style block, look in the 6.2/6.5 tech section for an thread about the new engine.
there are aftermarket girdle kits for the older blocks they are a little different. do a search for 6.5 stud girdle kit
Just for the record.
IMHO for whatever its worth, the bulk of the little steel girdles do little to help the lower end of the 6.2/6.5 engines.
The splayed main caps do about the best that can be done.
I am currently a fan of the reverse thread steel inserts for the center main outer holes.
These are made by Lock and Stitch and will fix a crack and or stop them from forming.
A block with large outer holes AND the large squirters is a candidate for a Door stop.
A non squirt block with either size outer main bolts and with very small or no cracks is the best answer.
Small cracks should be inserted and all sharp edges in the bottom end removed.
If the block has a buttload of miles and is in good shape, it likely will stay that way.
The new Iron from AMG is a great way to go but spendy $$$$$$
There has been at least one of our members that has retrofitted the AMG engine with the new girdle to use a modified pickup pan and oil pump.
This was a major setup and work but should prove a super engine.
Best

I've built four or five splayed main engines and all are doing well.
