Where do you get this info? Are you still working as a GM Tech and do it at work or is there a website?

I've been a GM tech for about 18 years. The last 14 1/2 have been at a light/ medium/ heavy duty GMC/ Peterbilt/ Workhorse/ UD dealer.

I bought this truck second hand last year and i like it alot, I've not had any major problems with it but I am not happy with the mph. I get about 14 mpg around my small town and about 16 on trips. I had a 7k# travel trailer and I would get about 9 mpg, I now have a 10k# 5th wheel and get about the same millage. I'm confused, the 1/2 ton gasser would get 9mpg towing the TT. I have been told my millage issue has a lot to do with the LT285's, ok I buy that but I wonder if their is something else. I wonder about the injectors, have they been replaced or should they be replaced?Would a VIN check give that info? If you have any advise I would appriciate it. Thank you in advance.

Check your "Private Message" box. I sent you two documents on your truck. As far as mileage goes, there are two many factors for the mileage on an LBZ. Driving habits, city vs. highway, maintenance. Have you tried using any diesel fuel additive?

Mostly city driving, I'm very light on the throttle and lift early when coming to a stop. I tried an additive (one recommended in this forum) and got 1-2 mpg's, it didn't seem worth the extra $ for a max of 2 mpg's. EGR cleaned twice by dealer for ECM light 1st time and for a mpg complaint the 2nd time, no change. So they recommended an injector clean, $185 later, no change. The Nitto LT285's were new when I bought it and I don't have the extra cash to justify replacing them until they are worn out. I would like to eventually get a programmer, intake and exhaust but I don't want to void the warranty.:rolleyes:

I would stay away from the Manual transmission truck if at all possible. You loose trailering ability and you will probably break a flywheel or two. There are little to no real problems with the Allison.

Thanks for the vin check I took you advice I just bought the 06 duramax with the ally. I hope I don't regret not getting a stick but it was a pretty good buy so I rolled the dice Hope I make out OK. thanks I am sure I'll be around for more advice as to what upgrades I need to do for more power and life first up will be amsoil throughout in the next week or so then when I get some cash I'll have to do something I know me ;-)!!!

If the truck is still under OEM Warranty, I would stay away from any power up devices. If you ever have to take the vehicle in for any WARRANTY repair and they detect the power up devices, then they will void what is remaining of your powertrain warranty. Enjoy your truck. ;)

How far back can you get information?

Before buying my '93 I tried to get the VIN information from the local dealer but they said they couldn't go back that far. I'm not sure if they just didn't want to be bothered.
