Welcome aboard!

Are you referring to an oil analysis result? If so, the Duramax oil analysis have shown higher copper content in some cases. One presumption has been cam bearings, but many other possibilities remain, and none have been proved. Also, there hasn't been any reports that I'm aware of indicating a related failure, of any kind.

Why no warranty? There is a bulletin that points to cam bearing failure leading to turbo failures.

There are some Technical Service Bulletins listed in "Feature Articles" of TDP. Once into feature articles, you will need to scroll way down before you come to the service bulletins. If all else fails, a little duct tape should work!! :D Incidently. Welcome to TDP. I'm relatively new myself, and have found there isn't much the membership doesn't know when it comes to diagnosing, and repairing diesel engines.

The engine has a warranty, unique to all GM Diesels. 5 years or 100K. There is a $100 deductible. Last I checked, the cam was part of the engine.

Beginning with Model Year 2007, the powertrain warranty was extended to 5 years, 100,000 miles with no deductible. This change was announced by GM late in the fall of 2006, and after the 2007 trucks were already on the road. Prior to that, the warranty was for 50,000 miles, and a $100 deductible applied.:)

Since 1978, GM has included the 5/100 warranty, unique to GM passenger car and light truck Diesel engines. This is not the same as the "powertrain", special policy, extended, or component warranties. The late model powertrain warranty may supersede the Diesel engine warranty in some/most cases, but the original Diesel engine warranty is still included.
