Hi folks,

Whilst out playing with the car on sunday:rolleyes: the transfer case started whining in drive in low range and quickly got louder. No noise in reverse or high range. Any pointers as to which part i've broken or whats the most likely part to require replacement would be greatly appreciated. I haven't pulled the case yet as it started raining heavy on Sunday night and hasn't let up yet.:(

I can get used 208's from 1008'9 cucv's no problem over here (there's a breakers yard not too far away with dozens of 1008s and 9s) but they are a bit pricey so maybe a rebuild would be better. I do have another 208 but it came off a 700r4 so i'd need to change the 27 spline input shaft for the 32 spline shaft.

thanks for any replies

Simon

Is the ATF level OK? Are there any metal particles in the fluid?

I have limited experience running a TC in low range, but I would expect a little more noise in a normal TC while in low range than when using high range.

Hi Jim, I should've posted an update. The low range started becoming noisy near the end of the day so I took it real easy to get the rest of the day.

When I got home I noticed the rear oil seal had decided to take a trip towards the UJ on the propshaft so it dumped lube every time I climbed an incline.

fitted a new seal and topped up the lube and next to no noise now.

Did some serious off roading at Drumclog today with no problems.
