Perfect timing .. Last week I noticed the dreaded smoke at idle symptom then hooked up the Predator and found the #4 injector balance rate was out of spec.. I’m going to try for a special policy replacement at the dealer but if it’s denied I’ll be using the article to guide me through an injector replacement. Thanks Matt & Jim for an a excellent write-up .. it’s much appreciated ..:)

Eventually I'll end up doing this. I've done it before on other diesels not quite as hard as this...but still tricky. I've read several articles on LB7 R&R...but this is basically the best.

Its not difficult. Its just about procedure, taking one's time, and making sure quality work is being done. Be clean, clean, clean!!! Like surgery clean!!! Keep your tools clean during the process, and clean parts as they come off prior to re-assembly. It will pay off down the road.

I've personally stood over GM mechanics doing this...all the while noticing they didn't drain coolant and dirt/grime from the valve cover removal process falling into the rocker arm galley. Made me cringe. But this guy could have cared less. Glad it wasn't my truck.

And even if GM still covered mine...I'd prolly do them myself anyhow. Because while $1600 is alot of money...its still not enough to let somebody do poor work on my truck.
