so in the last 3 days my truck has died 4 times while driving.


the only way to get it to start back up is to shut the key off and try again.


if you dont shut the key off first it will just turn over and over and not start.


none of the 4 times has made the SES light come on.


the only time it comes on is when it sits and idles. which is the stepper motor fault code i was getting.


is there any way of testing to see if its the PMD or not?

they're a little more spendy than i was thinking.

before we get too far.


back by the fuel filter there are 4 wires that run up to the air conditioning compressor.

i had to cut these and JUST re connected them.

the only problem is there are two wires the same color (green). normally this means that they have the same properties to them (both power, or both ground, both switched the same etc...) but i did mark them just in case.


when i was stripping the wires and connecting them back i accidentally lost track of which was which.


i dont see how but could these wires being hooked up backwards be causing my issue some how?

must be a hell of a question.


so the truck is now sitting at my work because it died right before i left for home and would'nt restart this time.


i'll be picking up a new PMD tomorrow.

You should get that pmd out of the engine compartment. Is it mounted to a heat sink or just a bracket?
If you can post a picture of the wires I will look on my truck and see if I can tell you anything helpful.

That PMD won't last long there. No heat sink!

What is the second harness coming out of the PMD plug? There should be a harness going to the engine harness plug that came off the original PMD and 2 wires to drive the fuel solenoid. I'd expect them to all be in one harness.

The harness the PMD harness connects to has 2 green wires in it. They are not the same and cannot be reversed. I don't have colors for the wires in the PMD harness.

If it runs at all I don't think they could be crossed.

well i'll pick up a universal heat sink in the next day or two and see if i can rig something up.

the truck ran fine, i'm not sure why there are two convoluted tubing lines running from there, maybe its just the way he looped it.


i dont think it was a purchased kit so the wires could be running any which way. it looks like it was done correctly though. so i'll leave it.

so how important is the 20 inch pounds for tightening the PMD?


i dont have my torque wrench with me and i had to install it at the hardware store.

i know its not over tight.

just wondering.

Good and snug will do. Its easy to pull the threads out of aluminium if you crank on em to much.

Does this look familiar? I had a customer come in with this home made pmd extension cable. He cut the original end off on the IP side. This is a good example of what not to do.
He used butt splice crimp on's for the connections.
