Hello All!
I've read here that a bit of oily residue on the intake pipe from the turbo to the manifold is pretty normal.
This is due to crank case vapors being fed to the turbo through the CDR valve.
If CDR valves go south, you get excessive oil consumption (I don't have that), and RPM surging (I don't have that either).
My burb has that oily residue. Just for the fun of it, I thought I'd check the CDR valve.
I read here about the CDR test with a rigged manometer...
First I checked for any blowby by removing the oil fill cap. I put my hand over it and thought I detected a vacuum. I thought that was pretty damn good! No blowby! I was always afraid to check for blowby in fear of what I might find... Anyhow...
I did the test. No vacuum at idle. No change in the water at all. But when we brought the RPM's up to 2000, I probably got around 3-4" of rise in the manometer (clear plastic hose as described here in the archives), which is normal.
At idle, the vacuum should be 1" IIRC.
I don't think its a big deal, though I'd see what you all had to say.
Here is the link to the test I performed:

Thanks,
