Is there any meaningful value in flushing the injector pump and injectors (6.5L) with a BG machine? The GM dealer recommended the flush. The cost is about $180. Aside from mild hard start (>32F) performance is okay.

The fuel filter is changed every 10 to 15K miles.

How about the BG engine flush? The oil and filter are changed about 2,000 to 3,000 miles. Most miles are highway.

Also, please recommend a source for hoses. The same dealer could not locate radiator hoses. GM, I was told, does not supply hoses anymore for a 1994 GMC 6.5 TD.

Thanks in advance,

Lars

Hi

havent heard of anyone flushing the pump yet....
if you dont have a contaminated IP, why flush.?
additive can be added to the fuel for better lubrication.
Check the advertisers section, sould be several supplying hoses..

If the fuel system is that full of crap there could be serious issues.

The IP flows a large amount of fuel through constantly and really I have never heard of flushing.

If the pump is full of crud, the issues will not generally resolve as damage would have been done.

Replace the filter and if need be drain the tank of any crap.

Sounds like a way to take $180 from you with little if any return for it.

Most parts stores have hoses for these rigs readily available. and in stock.

Now, hard starts are caused by these issues.

1- Poor or non working glow plugs.
2- Poor batteries/slow starter/bad cables etc.
3- Injectors with a low pop pressure that causes poor sloppy spray pattern.
4- cold advance lacking and or timing chain sloppy causing a slightly retarded condition
5- Coolant temp sensor not responding properly.

Likely you have a set of tired injectors and or poor glow plugs. But if the starter does not whip that critter over at a good clip then this can negate even the best injectors and IP

Yank the injectors out and have them tested. I see 175K in your sig as the miles on the rig.

If this is on the original injectors, they are toast.

They will run farther but will suffer.
A fresh set will noticeably improve both starts and mileage.

New glow plugs too and make sure they all work.

best
