Man, you won't need the vacuum pump to get it running, at all.
The vacuum pretty much just operates the emissions stuff on a '93. There should be two solenoids, an EGR (lines goes to the air cleaner), and the EPR.
The EGR is just like on a gasser, makes the engine eat exhaust to "clean it up" which it has the exact opposite effect. The EPR helps the engine warm up quicker, blocks off the driver's side exhaust port via a flapper that is normally OPEN.
Disabling the two devices won't hurt anything, or denying them of vacuum, the only side effect is a little Service Engine Soon light.
You could do without the vacuum pump (as many have) by getting a shorter belt (and removing the pump) for a 1993 with the 6.5L Turbo Diesel, it didn't have the emissions stuff, nor a vacuum pump.
