Hi All,

Need help finding the GM Tool J-33888 or equivalent. Used to install 6.2/6.5 diesel (in this case) into a '87 Chevy Box van. The motor is a non-turbo.

The tool is also known as an engine lift adapter and attachs to the motor so you can stab motor straight into the van. Trying to install the motor without the adapter requires much modification to the van (read cutting van front end off).

Thank you for any help. Please feel free to email me cunow@ccinternet.net .

All the best,

Chuck

This sort of a tool is going to be expensive and hard to find.

I have never done an R&R on an engine in a Van but assume it goes straight in the front after the grill is off.

You would be $$$$$$$ ahead to simply fab up a little bracket that will bolt to the front of the egnine (With the accessories off)

The head off of an engine stand with a few little mods (additions or slightly different bars and such could be used to do this task.

Fasten the head off the engine stand to a longer heavy pipe so you can "poke" the engine in.

Your new tool could be easily adapted to work with a regular hydraulic engine hoist.

Adpapt the new device to the verticle post on the lift with the regular arm lifting the engine close to the adapter with just enough room to allow the engine to penetrate the chassis.

You might have to add some "Ballast" to the back of the hoist to handle the long cantilever of the engine.

If you keep the engine as light as possible. (Stripped of all extras) until its in the chassis.

Just about how I would go about it.

The factory tools are prohibitively expensive and very tough to find.
This sort of stuff is usually a dealer only or possibly a large shop item.

Good luck
Robyn
