Changing a starter in an 01 6.6

Any advice on the best way to change the starter in an 01 silverado with a 6.6 duramax.

I'm guessing the best way to access it would be by removing the tire and the plastic splash guards from the passenger side wheel well.

Any tips or tricks I should know?

Start by disconnecting the batteries and then get the starter from under the vehicle. No tire or inner fender removal required. The bolts might be a little tight though. I believe they are only torqued to 36 ft. lbs. or so, but the corrosion betweent the head of the bolt and the starter housing makes them feel like 136 ft lbs.
