View Full Version : Coolant Leak Question

I have developed a constant slow drip from a hose located on the output side of the therm-statt housing. The pre-bent aluminum hose with a special ?compression fitting? going into the housing leaks at the plastic peice. First, I dont understand the design and why its leaking, is the fitting simply old and worn and will not provide the correct seal? Should I be buying another section of hose from GM with the cool peice of plastic or go another route?Others have this same problem too? Thanks for the help

If you are refering to the aluminum feed pipe on the RH side of the crossover that feeds the heater???
Yes these are notorious for leaking.
They are a push in snaplock device and are noted for breaking off when one tries to remove them.
The seal is an o ring in the little housing and the plastic piece is the locking clip.
The O ring gets hard and loses it's ability to seal.
The aluminum line can be reused if the sealing surface is not corroded badly.
Simply smooth the surface with fine emery cloth and it should be fine.
The quick connector can be replaced with an aftermarket unit from the parts store.
If in trying to remove the old unit, it breaks off it can be removed but will take a little work.
I wrote a description of this process in another thread that can be accessed.
Good luck
