View Full Version : layer of soot on top of fuel filter
I bought a used 99 tahoe a few months back. I changed the fuel filter recently and noticed a layer of soot on top of it and the wiring harness close by. Is this normal or should I look for a leak somewhere?
Thanks for any help..

Probably just some fuel residue that has collected some dirt (aka: grime). If it were soot, you'd have real problems.
The turbo downpipe isn't far from there, maybe it could be weeping a little. I've found the bandclamp on mine loosen a bit.

maybe check the intake gaskets? it's prolly not to common to have that middle plenum gasket blow out but who knows. EGR gas may be getting out.
