Being these tires are 33+" dia I would like to hear from those of you who have mounted them to stock wheels, comment about things like wear patterns, handling, bracking, stability on highway, low, or normal pressure off road use.

The tire manufacturer suggests minumim 7.5" wheel width, I know a narrow wheel helps keep bead in place at low pressure in off road situations. So, is 1/2" less width going to be a problem on highway, or?

On my 1500 the stock wheel offset would have made 285's look dopey and would have rubbed anyway.

Got the correct 8" AR15's and its like it was custom made, people can't believe it doesn't rub but it never has at any angle or deflection.

The stance is much more like a 2500 now.

Uhm, perhaps that was no help...

i've got 1998 stock rims
what's the largest tire size i can go without any problems with wheelwell, and things i dont know about.

I'm thinking of 31-33" - i've got dual rear wheels, so they will have to be narrower in rear i suppose

Unless I'm mistaken the stock rims are 6.5" wide. That said, I have 285/75/16's on my stock rims and have had no issues with them so far. They handle a little different, not worse, just different. There was some rubbing with the front bumper, but was easily corrected with a sawzall... I haven't had them on for enough miles to see treadware patterns, that is a conceren of mine though. Hope this helps.

anybody do 275/75s? I'm not trying to sawzall my truck out of stock trim in that location...

Aryeh - Check into 255/85/16's - about a 33" tire that should fit the stock rim. Should lower your rear ratio to about 3.73. There's an rpm-calc excel app floating around here somewhere.

Well, I have my 285/75/16's installed on 16"x7" Alcoas (alcoa has 4.25 back space, stock steel is 4.50").

I left torson bars at stock height, the front tires hit fender flare at rear edge of fender. So, I trimmed fender flares at rear of each front wheel, then rolled lower edge of fender (about 3") towards firewall cleaned and undercoated metal surface. Looks clean, and now have no clearance problems whatsoever.

As this tire runs at lower pressures "D load rated" it actually has a better ride than the 245/75/16 E rated tires. A more aggressive look, along with slight height increase is a plus.

At a 103" radious my diff ratio is now about 3.10:1, hack of VSSB is via dip switches now so switching back and forth tires, and calibration is a cake walk.

Because of my mods loss of preformance at low speeds is not there, fact it feels far better now than when it had no mods and 4.10:1 gears.

Glad it all worked out.

I just found out via GPS that with the 285's my speedo is only 4-5% slow.

That means the poor factory cal with the 245 donuts the truck had the first four years of its life just accelerated the demise of the factory warrentee (and pump warrentee) by quite a margin.....thanks <again> GM.

A few days into all around driving locally I find motor revs 1700rpm's @ 70 mph, lockup is slightly higher @ 58+ mph.

Don't know about mpg being +, or - yet.

Have to go over front suspension again cause truck wanders some, thinking idler arm this time.

I`ve run 285/75s on stock rims for 120K on my`92.Started with BFG A/Ts,then Kelly AWRs,no problems.I cranked the t-bars.On my`95,I ran 285/75 SwamperSSRs on 8"rims t-bars cranked.I needed to cut corner of bumper. They would rub fender in back.It took a technique of cutting wheels either slightly or hard going into a twisty turn. This would prevent rubbing.I have 255/85s on the`92 now.More of a stocker-look.Feels like it rolls better, steers easier.
