Hi,
what is the different between the 6.2 "J" and 6.2 "C" engine?
which engine is better for upgrading like turbo , serpentine belt, or something?
i own the 6.2 "J" year 1988 (Chevy Van G30)

Welcome aboard, Chris!
The engines are essentially the same. C is light duty, J is heavy duty. The C or J is the 8th digit of the VIN.
The C will have EGR. The J will have a bit more power due to fuel calibration (the injection pumps are the same, only calibrated different). The pre-cups (pre-combustion chambers, in the head) differ between them, but minimally effects power and economy, accordingly. Both are equal candidates for the serpentine belt and/or turbo upgrade. All parts are interchangeable between them. There are subtle differences between them, but involve the smog equipment level (intake manifolds and vacuum systems are different). A C engine is easily converted to a J.
