Hi
My 6.5 turbo diesel 94mod. stops suddenly. Sometimes it can be started right away, other times I have to crank it for some time or wait a couple of minutes.Sometimes the engine will only run for a few seconds before it stops again.

I suspect the FSD unit to cause the problem, but I`m not sure.
Does anyone know a reliable procedure to test if the FSD is working or not?

Isolating the problem to the FSD is a process of elimination; FSD failure doesn't throw a code or have a pass/fail test.
See Member's Area, Reference section and click on the article on stalling. It's some background info & a checklist proceedure to isolate problem.
The article on trouble codes aka DTCs for your year rig would be usefull reading also.
Post any codes that flash & other info on your rig (mileage, description of operating conditions when failure occurs, modifications from stock config., etc. for better armchair diagnostics.
Welcome to TDP.

Bought a new FSD and a cooler unit from DSG.
That seems to solve the problem.
