It is the solid brown one circled by yellow.

It is hanging from the dash and taped to a bit larger orange wire. It looks like it should be permanently plugged into a plastic connector.

Unfortunately the older rigs many times have been violated or have had additions made during their time on the road.

If you are real currious as to what its for, try tracing it to see where it originates.

Many times there are extra wires under the dash for options or accessories that were not installed on the vehicle.

If the truck has had an alarm system installed or a custom stereo then there can be myriad extra wires added and without a schematic to look at it can be a real crap shoot.

Best bet is to be sure its not left bare at the end, just in case it is hot at any time and tuck it up and tie it secure with a tie wrap.

As long as all the stuff you need works right, dont worry too much.

Best

The thing is, nothing but an aftermarket radio has been added, and this wire looks factory.

I am asking what this wire is because I am having electrical problems.

I think tracing without a diagram will be almost impossible because it seems to disappear up into the dash covered in black factory tape

What side of the dash is this wire and connector located? What is directly above and below it? I work with a bunch of old 6.2 Tech's. I might be able to get some info for you.

It is on the left side. Where it is hanging is near the headlight switch.

Thanks for the assist!

Have you checked for any power to it? What is not working in the vehicle? You might try putting power to it by way of a fused jumper wire. 10 amps or less.

I asked the old timers here. They had no clue. It always helps to be able to actually put your head under the dash when it comes to situations like this.

Thanks a lot for asking!

I can stick my hear under well enough, it's just the wire kets lost in black take and other wires.

Per the instrument panel wiring diagram the brown wire comes off the light switch and goes to left front park light and rear conn. Zone D-21 if you can get your hands on a factory wiring diagram. The brown wire seems to be a common lead to marker lights and such. Try this Autozone link http://www.autozone.com/addVehicleId,1063802/initialAction,repairGuide/shopping/repairGuide.htm?pageId=0900c1528008f3ce

Looking at many of those diagrams with 88-98 listing, I see there are several brown wires listed under the dash. And all my lights function, thus it does no help.

Thanks

Is your truck the older style R/V series ? If so that brown wire should go up the "A" pillar for marker lights .

I am not sure what series it is.

The light switch already has a brown wire, though it is half the size and darker in color.
