I was just recently approached by a potential buyer on some parts that I had listed in the classifieds on this site. The ad was pretty much dead for several months. I was asking $325 for the parts, and this guy then wanted me to cash a money order for $1525 and send back $1200 to him through his prearranged shipper.

IMHO this is a bigtime fraud... I have notified the IFCC and now I am notifying you. Seller be ware!!!

Tan,
Same boat. I just sold a motorcycle. But before I sold it, I was sent a fraudlent $4000 check , and was told to send the remaining $1500 to the shipper after they picked up the bike. LOL, the check is now hanging on my wall next to other customers bad checks. I informed the Police, but after everything was checked out, the guy had covered his tracks pretty good. The check was damn near original too. Very impressive what you can do with a computer now adays, too bad its for the wrong purpose. BTW your not too far from me ( romeo , about 15-20 mins away ).

The consumer guy on the radio, Clark Howard, talks about this scam all the time. NEVER cash any check, especially cashiers checks, for an overpayment, and send them the extra. You will be out the cash and possibly the parts too!

The cashier check forgeries are very good and very troubling. No idea what the banks are doing about it, but I think I would call the issuing bank at a minimum.
