Which 6.2 do I have??

I have a 1988 Chevrolet 3500 with a 6.2 diesel, how can you tell which block it has? C or J. Will the VIN tell you? Thank you.

The C or J (or S or F for the 6.5L) is the 8th digit of the VIN. All GM vehicle engines are indicated by the 8th digit.
