Looks like a great forum for the 6.2 and 6.5 diesels that I have in my trucks. (1st post here)

I have a core injector pump being rebuilt as we speak, but am wondering if the problem may be something simpler:

1988 HMMWV (Military Humvee) 6.2 NA motor with 7k original miles....has sat for 7 years in dry storage. I updated all the glow plugs and new GPC-the engine is completely mechanical and stock. Cleaned out old fuel, did two filter changes, new air filter and general tune up.

Problem:

The engine starts and runs fine, has decent power and no smoking at all. If you punch the throttle and immediatley let off-the engine stalls when its hot or cold. If you gently let off the throttle-if settles to a nice idle with no stalling. There is a considerable (maybe full 1 second lag) in RPM changes when the pedal is pushed to WOT (wide open throttle).

Before I replace the IP-any other things I should verify/check?
