Recently installed pyro, trans and boost guages, when I was towing TT last week egt went past 1200 degrees (pre turbo) on hills when trans downshifted into 3rd, engine is stock, what can I do to lower egt 'ie' timing etc, will a 4" exhaust help, TT is only 18', approx 4000 lbs and hills in this area aren't that big, engine temp is OK now thanks to KD modified fan clutch.
Other symptoms that I am having at this time are;
light miss (fishbite)when cruising at highway speeds when empty, doesn't miss when pulling TT, seems to have excessive diesel knock when cruising or deaccelerating, sounds ok when engine is loaded
cruise control looses memory intermittently when going down a steep hill or when brake applied (won't resume)
Intermittent code P1216
I have replaced PMD with a Dtech, and also replaced injectors (KD), PMD is remote mounted on cooler behind drivers side battery
How accurate are these guages. Isspro from Kennedy
Thanks in advance:)

how many miles on it?

P1216 probably explains the cruise control issues and the missing. I doubt if it has any bearing on the EGT, though. Try running a heavy dose of a good fuel conditioner to see if the fuel solenoid will settle down, otherwise I see a new injection pump in your (perhaps distant) future...

Truck has 250,000 KM on it but I have only owned it for two years so I don't know if the ip or even if the engine is original, I suspect that the engine has been changed because someone has sprayed flourscent pink paint on it and the oil pan is dented in an spot that would be difficult to do in vehicle
Has anybody used the Dtech injection pumps?????:confused:
thanks

Stock form I think EGT's are just high when working the truck especially towing on hills. If the ECT and or IAT don't get high then the PCM does nothing for controlling or protecting engine or exhaust temps.

Clean air filter? Bigger exhaust and down pipe will help some if you take advantage and increase boost a little.

What are you seeing for boost under high EGT. 8-10 psi boost will cool EGT some compared to running 5-7 psi if exhaust and intake are good. Then you want to keep the RPM's down where turbo is ok. After 2600 rpm the gm-x turbo's are restrictive. The engines makes best torque at near 1750-1850 rpm but seems overall power and performance is better at 2100 2300 rpm for me. On hills stay in this sweet zone of 1750- 2300 rpm's your speed will just have to be what it turns out. Not sure about auto's but keep torque converter locked up if can.
