trying to set timing right on my 6.2,cover was tempered with can,t realy see where the marks are.i have install timing gears,so no chain slack,was told too advance till it sounded like a power stroke when on cold advance,what happens if you have too much advance.i must be close but she clatters pretty nice on cold advance.

Timing it by ear is tough. But it has been done. too much is a bad thing though, you can burn off the glows with to much, and then your in big trouble. You may want to read an article over on the ''Oliver Diesel'' website under ''Diesel Timing''. Hope this helps. Let us know......
