routing oil lines to oil cooler

I cannot remember if I thanked all for the advice about my battery cables. If I did not, thank you. I ended up making my own. Problem solved. Anyway, I am replacing my oil lines, not by choice. The bracket, on the exhaust manifold, holding the lines, wore a hole in both lines. Simply amazing, there was a full inch of rub line. There is no way to clamp bracket tighter, it just clips on. Anyway, the two "quick connect" fittings, on the side of the block, one is located higher than the other. Which one of those are considered "in" and which one is "out"? I got pulled away and I can not, beyond a shadow of a doubt, remember which line goes where on the oil cooler. As always, thank you, in advance for the help. 2000 K3500 SRW 6.5 NV4500, "old style". Basically stock. I do have the remote PMD. Oh, the oil lines are GM, to the tune of $360, another $20 for oil filter adapter "O" rings

Lines are prebent so lay them on the ground side by side and it shoud be obivious which one goes where, oil cooler doesn't care which way oil flows

Do yourself a favor spend the extra 100 bucks and get the cooler and line kit from DSG and don't worry about line leaks again and you get a larger cooler too

rhsub: Thank you. My old lines are a little different. They had about 2" of the tubing extending from the backside of the quick connect. The new ones do not have this. Also one of the new lines has a "in" sticker on it. There appears to be some difference in the "bends". Does not appear to be major, though. Just enough to make them a little trickier to route back in place and getting the spring clips back in. I was concerned about the oil cooler. Thank you, once again.

Well, the saga continues. I tried to replace the oil cooler lines with GM replacements. Extreme difficulty getting the lines in and to the quick connects on side of block. I went to connect the quick connects and the top of the bottom fitting rubbing against the bottom of the top fitting. I did manage to get the clips in. I then went to connect the oil cooler fittings. The fitting on the left side went in problem free, however, the right side was somewhat difficult, due to the bend of the tubing. What was more disturbing though was the oil line was 3" from the front bracket. There is no way it was going in bracket. As if this wasn't bad enough, I could not get the oil filter adapter, minus the oil filter, to mount back up. The bottom oil line hitting oil filter face, preventing the adapter to mount flush with the bottom of block. I went back to "dealer" and I asked if they had another set, what was the range of years the part numbers were for, etc., etc. Seems part numbers are for '96-'2000. The other set looked just like the ones I was returning. I finally had enough and asked for my money back, oh yeah, I also asked them why the dealer in Billings could sell me the exact same set for $80.00 less. They said they didn't know. So I go to the window to get my refund, only to find out they don't have enough money and they will mail me a check tomorrow afternoon!! I wonder what would happen if I went to the window to pay for my parts, "oh, so sorry, I don't keep that much money on my person, I'll have to send you a check tomorrow afternoon. Bye".

I forgot to add, I'm going with SS and teflon oil lines, new fittings and new oil cooler that is 50% larger for, get this, $140 less with s/h.

JoeyD: I was thinking of ordering from lubricationspecialist.com. rhsub recommended DSG, they are over $400. It sounds like the same material as DSG.

Be careful when installing the SS braided teflon lines. They DO NOT like bending... if you bend a little too far, they collapse. Gentle bends only!

I have had this problem on a customers truck awhile back. Seems the oil cooler lines from the dealer had a part number change, I bought a set, and it was obvious one of the lines the block end was oriented wrong. I could have gotten it in but it wasnt right. I ended up finding a dealer that had the old part # in stock, fit like oe. They must have gotten a batch of bad lines at some point. Nowdays I would not consider using factory lines as I have since installed several of Gregs sets. Vastly superior to the oe crap.
