Hi guys, just wonderd which grade of oil was best for the old girl? It came with a bit of 10/40 is that alright or is somthing elses better?

40 weight, or 15w40 is the standard grade, as long as they are Cx-4 API compliant (the C indicates "compression ignition", and the x can varied over the years, incrementing from A to currently J, the higher letter is later). The API compliant should be CG-4 or later.

For extreme cold climates, down to 0w-40 can be used, and 5w-40 is acceptable for climates in between. I don't know of any 10w-40 that is modern Diesel compliant. You may have it in the UK, and the standards may be different. Each manufacturer will be able to tell you what the API compliant is, regardless of what's on the label.
