DETROIT (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co. is recalling over 250,000 vehicles, most of them large pickup trucks, to fix safety defects that include sudden stalling of diesel engines, federal safety regulators said Monday.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the stalling problem affected F-Series superduty pickups from the 2004-2005 model years as well as the 2004-2005 Ford Excursion full-size sport utility vehicle and E350 and E450 vans.

All 180,104 of those vehicles are equipped with 6.0-liter diesel engines and the recall stems from a potentially faulty fuel injection control module, NHTSA said.

At least their trucks are being fixed on Ford's dime. Ours are repaired at our expense, and may or may not be fixable.

I agree with your point but, they are new vehicles. The real test is how they handle issues at the end of warranty or, as in our instances, out of warranty.

We have heard of many dealerships/zone reps that have helped out original owners with items out of warranty.

Wait a minute here, we do get repairs done to our engines in respect to stalling for free. This is in the form of the extended injection pump warranty for 11 years or 120k. And this IS the source of stalling on 94+ 6.5 engines.

But, it's somewhat ironic that Ford is having a similar issue. Also, I recall that Dodge is having problems with their electronic IP's do, something to do with a little black box as I recall mounted to the pump. redface.gif

i'll take a mechanical pump over an electronic one any day.but they have to do it to meet emissions,just what are they gonna do in 07.is anybody compliant yet???

For 07 we are going to see a lot of exotic exhaust scrubbing added to the vehicles. And these systems are not cheap.

Keep holding on to those old vehicles.... As is, you almost have to take out a second mortgage just to afford a vehicle.

You ask who's laughing??? Me... All those folks who just have to have the new car smell and/or the new model year widget.... Most will have to live in their car... when its time for retirement.

$$$$$ Yep, that's why I have 20+ year old vehicles!! My house cost less than most new trucks today! I got a screaming deal about 3 years ago on it. Most wouldn't be proud to own what I do, but I couldn't care less about the "new car smell" or widgets!!! Just more junk to break on newer stuff!!

but I do miss my 6.2 4x4 blazer a hole lot. the simple things in life are great. And the smoke it used to make when some nut got to close. the new one just dont do that ;)
