i would like to purchase the required tool to set the pump timing on a 94 electronic injection pump. went to parts store ,they had obd2 scanner, they told me it would scann codes but i couldnot set timing. there is this gmtdscan advertised on the popup, but i am hopeing some one could give me the straight scoop on what i need. i really want to buy a product that will work on newer vehicles also. as always cost is a concern. any good advise would be appreciated. thanking you in advance.

I went to the gmtdscan site and checked it out, it appears that you need a laptop and a special cable to hook into the adal connector on the truck,I may be wrong here but thats what it sounds like to me also there is a special gm tool that is used to turn the pump and the two lower nuts on the pump are hard to get to, there is a special GM wrench for that job also. Flat rate to set the timming is 1.1 hr on a turbo and since you shouldn't have to reset the timming once its set properly it would be more cost effective probably to let a pro do it
Hope this info helps

I use the gmtdscan software on a laptop and I like it. Garages around here charge a fortune just to set your timing if you can find one, and I like being able to get real time OBD1 info on the fly. You dont have to use a laptop to set the timing you can use pretty much any desktop. By the way, you cant use an OBD2 scanner on an OBD1, and I dont use special tools to adjust mine.

Yes, the GMTDScan (http://www.thedieselpageforums.com/adpeeps/adpeeps.php?bfunction=clickad&uid=100000&bzone=directlink&bsize=468x60&btype=3&campaignid=940477&adno=13&transferurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.enghmotors.com) kit is a lot less expensive than a Tech II scan tool (about $3000), which is what the dealers use.
