Has anyone converted a 2wd chevy to 4wd? How difficult would you say it was? I am planning on this. I have heard all you have to do is swap out the 2wd engine and tranny crossmembers for 4wd xmembers, and swap out all the bracketry for the front suspension. Word is the frames themselves are exactly the same between 2wd and 4wd - its just the crossmembers and brackets that are different - all of which are bolt on. Which brings me to my next question - Ill check later when Im home, but is the engine crossmember bolted to the frame or is it held on by rivets? If rivets, its it okay/safe to substitute the rivets for grade 8 bolts when swapping out the engine xmember? Anything else I should be wary of? thanks.
