I replaced the thermostat in the 93 below a couple weeks ago because when I bought the truck I noticed it took forever to heat up to about 140* and would never get over about 160*F. I replaced it with a Stant 195* because I am shooting for the highest fuel economy and because I do not tow, haul and it does not have a turbo ... and I could not find a Robert Shaw in town. Anyway, it now heats up properly but still only to a max of 160*F as observed on the guage. I have used my digital thermometer on the goose neck and it reads only about 172*F +/- some change. Any thoughts on why the engine does not get up to at least 200*F. My 98 6.5TD had no problem getting up to 210*F on a 195*F thermostat. Is my cooling system on the 6.2 really so efficient that it will only get up to ~ 170*F?!

Stant may not be the best choice. The Stant t-stats I'm familiar with are not a hi-flow design, and they contains a small hole that allows coolant to pass through unregulated. The AC Delco stats totally close off coolant flow till it approaches opening temperature.

Thanks Jim. I may just live with it since I am planning on replacing the engine in about 2 years - hopefully anyway. I will see what temp it hits this summer with the AC on.

My '93 always indicated really low. The actual water temp was fine.
