Is the Phazer gear drive worth the money? Am thinking of installing it while I have my motor out and apart. Also looking at a high volume oil pump, rebuilding my injectors, new bearings, new rings, maybe a banks turbo if someone has one laying around???

Depending on where you shop, a new chain/sprocket set could cost between $75 and $125. On the other hand, a DSG gear-drive costs ~$250 (mechanically injected 6.2/6.5) to ~$350 for a Phazer gear-drive set made to operate with the electronic 6.5 fuel injection system. A gear-drive makes the most sense for an enthusiast or for anyone who keeps the same vehicle for several years. If you tend to trade vehicles every 2-3 years, then a chain-drive timing set would make the most sense.

Where can we get the Phazer for $350? I'm finding it for a lot more.

If you are talking about this one: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=PJJ%2D427%2D5C%2DN&view=32&N=700+115

Can you use the gas gear drive on a diesel? Wasn't aware that you could...

The part in the link is for gassers. The 6.5L Diesel isn't the only GM 6.5L ever produced. The 396 BBC is also a 6.5L engine. Make sure you get the right one.

The Pete Jackson part at Summit for the 6.2/6.5 is # PJJ-6-2-D, and is $251. Maybe if you buy 2, you can get them for $180. Also note, they don't list one for the 6.5L, which means there's likely a problem for EFI engines (no accommodation for the reluctor wheel). Pete Jackson's website (http://www.petejacksongeardrives.net/24122.html) indicates the same. If anyone's bought and installed one of these on an EFI, please let us know.

That was my question. The only one at the price quoted is for gassers...

Technically speaking, the brand name "Phazer" is restricted to electronic 6.5L engines only. They don't actually make a "Phazer" for mechanical engines like our 6.2L. They simply call them "gear drives."

It looks like prices have gone up on these recently. Kennedy Diesel used to have the best prices on them, but now he's showing $400 for the Gear Drive, and $475 for the Phazer on his website.

I paid $250 for mine about three years ago, but I bought it second-hand from an individual who never got around to installing it.
