I recently purchased a '84 Chevy K20 with a 6.2L. This is the first diesel I have ever purchased. Plan on using it at my second home hauling a boat back and forth in addition to making it the weekend "work" truck.

I have read through several pages of this forum - an excellent resource.

But I was just wondering if there were any specific do's and don'ts as it relates to towing, general operation, things that might ought to be upgraded in terms of brakes, etc. Also have given thought to adding an aftermarket tow package.

Appreciate everyone's feedback and knowledge sharing in advance.

if its a 4 speed automatic (700r4) you will need transmission coolers ,and do not tow in overdrive, make sure your radiator is in good shape so you don,t over heat engine.if your boat is not to heavy you should be ok brake wise, or else you may need brakes on trailer.and at that age may be new brake pipes and hoses.
