I'm looking for a set of good used 3.42:1 ring & pinion for a '89 3/4 ton with a 14 bolt, 9.5" diameter ring gear. Does anyone have some or can tell me what year of models will work? Thanks

I put 3.42's in my 88, but I think my ring gear was larger.
Anyhow, I had a hard time finding a set and ended up getting a set from Yukon Gear as nobody else seemed to make them anymore.

If yours were larger, then you probably had the 10.5" ring gear and it would have been very difficult to find a used set of 3.42 gears for it. The 9.5" ring gear was offered from the factory with 3.42 gears and I don't think the 10.5" ring gear ever was.

Actually I have a 10.5" Carrier w/ ring gear right now that is a 3.23:1, probably not factory, but I do know that they had factory 3.42:1 for the FF.

While rare, the 3.42 gears in the 10-1/2" FF was an option in the GM trucks/Suburbans. As mentioned above, Yukon Gear www.ringpinion.com (http://www.ringpinion.com) (aka Randy's Ring & Pinion) sells the R/P set.

I'm currently running Yukon 3.42's (http://www.thedieselpage.com/reviews/randys.htm) in the 9-1/2" 14-bolt under Lil Red. :)
