2000 6.5 3500hd

I am new to the site. I'm Barley and I'm thinking about buying my first diesel.
The truck is a 2000 Chevrolet 3500HD dump. It has a 6.5 Turbo Diesel with 150,000 miles. I have heard many folks on another forum tell me what a bad motor it is. I have a hard time believing them. So I figured I could come over here (as was recommended on the same forum) and find out from folks who know.
The truck is very clean, runs out like a champ, government owned, and hasn't been worked too hard. I can get it for $10,000. I can get maintenance records, too. Could it be worth the money?

There is lots of talk about how bad the 6.5 is but starting MAY 1999 the motor hand been enhanced by GM. However, AM GENERAL had done one better by changing block material.

We know of at least one 2000 6.5 that went bad see topic 'enhanced blocks' in this forum.

I have a 1999 and very happy w/its 6.5 td.

I say, if you like the truck and the price is right, go for it.
