This is a two part question. First part is that I am finding on another thread I have going that I am likely going to need to go to a turbocharger. Looking at the banks sidwinder and just 6.5 take off componants I cant see much difference. Is there really a reason to pay that much more for the Banks vs. just the 6.5 stuff? Are there other parts needed to convert that are not obvious?

Second part is, comming from a racing background we wound never run a turbo without an intercooler but none of the 6.2 tubo kits or 6.5 Turbos came with intercoolers. I certainly have room in my 94' 2500 4X4 Suburban up front. Making intercooler pipes will be chalanging but still doable. Any reasons why this is not being done?

from my understanding the 6.2 and 6.5 are almost perfectly interchangable, you can run the 6.5 parts on the 6.2 you would need the exhaust manifolds from the 6.5 to run the turbo, I think.
and gm from the factory did not put intercoolers on they would have been alot better if they did, you can get aftermarket intercoolers though, or fab your own.

Before you start throwing turbo parts at your engine, you really need to get the N/A performing like it should. Your engine has issues, and a turbo won't help until you get those ironed out. Adding a turbo may make your situation worse.

There is not very much difference in additional power with the Banks or GMC 6.5 turbo. Both are low pressure turbos, and the manufacturers (Banks & GMC) do not recommend intercoolers. if you decide to go with a higher boost turbo, then an intercooler is nice. There is almost no interchangable parts between the Banks turbo and the GM (6.5) turbo
