The other day i had a hard ping/knock. I had driven the truck about 3 miles and I had the issue. It was intermittent and only happened 2 times then cleared up. I had no noticeable power loss or oil pressure drop. I couldnt see if I had smoke B/C it was at night. Could it have been an injector getting some trash or bad fuel? I believe the truck has never had new injectors.

In gaso engines, "ping" is a generic term that is used to describe "knock" (too-early timimg), "pre-ignition" (fuel-air mixture being ignited too early by hot deposits in the compustion chamber), and "detonation" (too lean a mixture).

However, what you've experienced is, IMHO, the engine clearing itself of carbon deposits, as that noise is very similar to "ping" that you've described.

Some other forum members may have a more realistic explanation. :D

Well it happened again. I was low on fuel so I hurt my wallet and loaded up on some. I am hoping bad fuel was the cause.
