I live in Sweden whith cold winters, and every winter 1 or 2 lifters crash.
The thing that hapends are that the washer that the pushrod stands on tip over and the pushrod goes down in the lifter and it start to knock.
It´s not the same every time

These hydraulic roller lifters are sensitive to oil type and rating, which help define the oil's ability to suspend soot. Soot if the leading cause of lifter problems in these engines (which really isn't all that common). Use a motor oil with the API CG-4, CI-4 or CJ-4 rating. Change the oil and filter every 3000 miles (5Km), and you should be OK. Using a diesel rated synthetic usually allows extending the drain interval another 1000 miles or thereabouts, due to a better piston ring seal (delays the soot buildup). :)
