Earlier I had detailed a hard starting engine with some extended crank times on a 2001 LB7 Dmax with 115K miles. I also noted on 2 occasions, the engine would stall after having started "normally" and run for 3-5 seconds. One respondant thought it may be the check valves failing in the fuel filter head. A conversation with my local dealership (and tech support) reveals that there are some known filter head failures, where the fuel will run back to the tank due to faulty check valves. I think this filter head is something like $500 from the dealer.

Sadly, I've learned that my aftermarket extended warranty company is in receivership and I may have to pay for a replacement filter head myself. Are there any replacement filter heads available for these engines, other than the OEM? This could get pricey!!!

Any help would be appreciated!

Personally, I'd suggest adding a lift pump. If the problem persists, it's probably injectors which are covered to 200k
