I very close to buying a used 2005 duramax with 55,000 miles on it. What is the standard engine/transmission warranty on this truck? I'm just wondering if I buy it, what will be under warranty and what won't be. Thanks

5/100 on the engine. Originally 3/36 B to B on the rest of the truck. The emissions system has another warranty, but varies state to state (higher than the 3/36, check with the dealer). The emissions warranty covers most fuel system components, as does the engine warranty. In 2006, the 5/100 powertrain warranty started (included the tranny, transfercase, axles, and related electronics), and was retroactive to many 2005 models. You'll have to check with a dealer for the specifics to the vehicle you are looking at.

Are you sure? I thought it came in MY 2007, not retroactive. I have an '06 and AFAIK, it's 3/36 only.

True, started with 2007 models. Retro to '06? Must of been quiet about that one.

Sure? Maybe not. I thought it was during the year of 2006 (not the M/Y) they started it. I have a friend with a 2006, and it applies. The new powertrain warranty was just being introduced at the time he bought his truck, and the dealer said it was retroactive to the previous year. I dunno. If we can't confirm it, I'll talk to the dealer the next time I'm there.

In any case, John, yours should be covered by this warranty.

Yes, please report if it confirms. You can’t get much later a purchase date than my 2006, new on the lot with 16 miles during late 2007 closeouts. If offered late going into the 2007 year, this truck should qualify I would think.
