View Full Version : Lots of noise when 4hi engaged.

I recently had issues with a front axle and hub. After getting that in order, I rotated the tires do due heavy toe wear on the fronts. Now, I am getting a lot of vibration when in 4hi. When the switch is hit, there is an initial 'clunk' after which it will engage and I can feel the front wheels pull, so that seems to be in order, but there just seems to be more gear noise and vibration from up front.

Because of this I have used it sparingly, but would like to know what I should check for.

Bad front differential bushings will cause all kinds of noise 'look closely at them for possible contact metal to metal.'

Definitely a metal to metal sound. Are the bushings right at the axle / diff housing?

One is mounted at top of differential other is at bottom just off drivers side lower control arm, they are press fit. However, I remove the old ones w/hacksaw then use a bushing driver and hammer to replace em.
