GM Gets DMAX Diesel Plant in Gear With $69 Million Investment

General Motors announced this month that they will invest $69 million in their Morine, Ohio, DMAX facility in order to manufacture new Duramax 6.6 liter V8 turbo diesel engines. These engines are designed to meet the strict emissions standards that will go into effect in 2010.

California Asks EPA to Regulate Non-Road Greenhouse Gas Emissions
California Attorney General Edmund G. Brown, Jr. is petitioning the EPA to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for equipment in the construction, mining and agricultural industries. The petition states that the EPA has the authority and duty to adopt national emissions standards for non-road engines and vehicles, and asks the agency to adopt regulations to carry out emissions limits for such machines. House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee Considers Legislation Preserving SEP Funding for Diesel Retrofits
The Energy & Commerce Committee's Energy & Air Quality Subcommittee held a hearing and markup on H.R. 3754 this week: Authorizing Supplemental Environmental Projects to Incent Reductions of Diesel Emissions. The bill is designed to enable the continued funding of diesel retrofit projects as part of EPA enforcement settlements and will now be considered by the full House Energy & Commerce committee before moving to the floors of each chamber for a final vote. Missouri Senate Passes Biodiesel Mandate

The Utah House passed a bill providing a $1,000 tax credit for new vehicles that meet or exceed current air quality and fuel economy standards, which vary by fuel types, including clean diesel. President Bush's Budget Maintains FY2008 DERA Funding Levels
On February 4, President Bush announced his FY2009 budget plans, which renewed the $49.2 million appropriated for the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) from FY2008.
