Getting to know my 93 C2500 4L80E ext cab 2WD. It has a:) GM-3 turbo. I pulled the air cleaner to check the filter, end play on the turbo and I tried to move the waste gate linkage, won't budge by hand. I put a wrench on it "did not force the issue" and again, no budging. Does that sound right? Truck has no added gauges yet for boost, EGT etc. I was going to pull the air snout but ran out of time. Looking for feed back on the linkage movement.
Also, have not seen any more bubbles in the overflow tank, and I have only added a small amount of coolant in 100 miles "I wanted to put a smile here but could not figure it out"

You should be able to move it, especially with a wrench on it. Disconnect the linkage and try again.

So it should be able to move with truck running or off? Is it activated with spring tension?

Get after it with PB Baster or =, it should move with your fingers. (applies to spring controlled wastegates not vacumn controllers)

OK, my 94 is sitting in the driveway and I can move my waste gate towards the rear of the truck with resistance. It is closed by the vacuum actuator pulling it towards the front of the truck with the engine off. IIRC with the truck running it was near impossible to move(vacuume holding shut). Hope that helps ..........

My accuator appears to be pushed toward the fire wall "linkage arm extended out of the canister". It looks like it would open in the forward direction. I will remove the two bolts holding the canister to the turbo and see if I can move the actuator arm coming out of the exhaust turbo or the spring canister rod to determine which one is stuck.

The 93 is spring loaded closed. You should be able to move it by hand, and certainly with a wrench on it. If it's frozen solid, PB Blaster is a good start.

If when you unhook it, and it still doesn't move, it's frozen. Simple as that.

It is eaisly moved by hand "against the spring tention" when you know what direction to move it. Some times I feel like an idiot!
