Just wondering if the valvebody from a '85 4x4 can be swaped with a '89 2wd and if so would there be any advantage? I believe they can be but I'm not certain.

After 1988 you can remove the tv exaust check ball, plus I believe there is another aux. valve that I know is not on the '85. Just playing and trying to make the tranny better I do tow sometimes.;)

Early 700's had a single valve body. You can I believe swap these around as you desire.
The later units have Two (2) valve bodies and I dont believe the main unit is interchangeable.

You dont really want to use anything in the 700R family earlier than 87 anyway due to some severe issues with the early boxes.

The 87 and later units are the ones to use and for a 4x4 use the K case units.

The folks at TRANSGO tech support could probably answer your question with an absolute answer.
