I've been searching and have not find all the answers to all my questions, but just bits and pieces here and there.

I understand GM used a few different block over the 6.2L product run.

The first year, 1982, the block were of high nickel content, thicker in certain spots and painted RED.
Thus the nick name, Red Block.

I read about a block that had a casting number of 660.

The last years used a block that had a casting number of 553.
I've got a '93 GMC Van with a 6.2L, so I will assume it is a 553.

I am asking for a general education about the 6.2L block.
Which ones are good, which ones are bad?
Which ones are prone to crack in the webs and which ones are strong?

The final 6.2L blocks were the single-piece rear main seal "599", produced in the 1992-93 model years - according to the AERA.

I'd vote for them being the best - for a variety of reasons. :)
