View Full Version : How Do You Remove Ignition Lock Cyld - 82 C10
I just picked up a tilt steering column from a 82 C10 to put in my 85 K5. Some one broke a screw driver off in the ignition lock? How do I remove it so I can put a new one in .
Thanks,

You need to pull the steering wheel then using a lock plate compressor, remove the circular clip on the steering shaft.
After you removed the lock plate you remove the horn slip ring. The 4-way flasher button has to be removed, there is a small philip screw.
The turn signal arm has a bracket that is fasten with a single screw, after removing the bracket there is three screws holding the turn signal switch.
After you remove the three screws and pull out the switch (it won't come out far), You will see where the lock cylinder is located. There should be a single screw above it which after you remove it will allow you to pull the lock cylinder.
Just a word of caution, there are lock cylinders that do not use the screw, there is a slot in the bowl and a spring loaded tab is on the cylinder, I think you have to be in the run position to be able to depress the tab.
Thanks,
Got it , very good directions.

If the lock is no good you can drive it in with a punch, IIRC.
