Injection pump numbers

I removed the Stanadyne ID plate from my '98, 6.5td.
Yes, I will make records but, it has this number:
D5 DS-S5288. The 'D' in the 'D5' seems to be over-struck with a 'B'

What do these numbers tell me, please?

The last 4 digits are the most important in regard to the pump.

The 5288 is the most common pump out there and was installed in the field around 96 and up.

IMHO they are reliable units as compared to the previous models.

There are two models that came about after that model.

Are the two later models better than this 5288? If so, do you know their numbers and if they are a direct replacement?
