has a knocking sound

100,000 miles and my durmax has a sound that is kind of hard. thinking I should have someone check the valve lash adjustment. it runs fine but it didnt sound this way when i bought it, particularly bad when it is cold.

If you put all 100K on that truck, you should have a pretty good handle on what sounds the engine produces. If you're new to this truck, then there could be some room for interpretation, because a diesel will sound somewhat different when started at cold temperatures. In general, if an owner needs to ponder whether a diesel sound is bad, it generally isn't.

If the sound appears both cold and warm, then it might be a good idea to have the injector balance looked at for all eight injectors. Could have a leaking injector.
