View Full Version : 0-60 mph in how many seconds?

My '96 6.5L 4x4 Suburban runs 0-60 anywhere from 14-15 seconds, measured (not very acurately) with my stop watch on my wrist.
The only performance upgrades that I have so far are the air intake as well as the 4" inch exhaust including cross over pipe. (See my signature).
Does this time with the current upgrades sound about right or does this seem a bit slow?
What is the 0-60 time in seconds on a stock 6.5 4x4 Suburban?
Any input is as always greatly appreciated.

:)I never did make any 0-60 runs with my 95 Sub 2500 4X4, but what you're seeing sounds a little slow, considering that I have 3.42's in it. It's been so long since it was as stock as your's that I could be way off, though. I seem to remember that it seemed real "doggy" back when.

Anyone Else???????????????????
OK, you got my interest. I've owned this '95 Tahoe, well I ordered it from the factory. It has 3.42 gears with an Auburn LS and alot but not all the mods are listed in my sig. I took it out on level ground and used a stop watch. I pressed the accelerator pedel down far enough to just make the tires cherp at the start. The stop watch at 60 was just under 11 seconds. My vehicle is lighter than yours, so I would expect a faster 0-60 run. I also have the IP timing about a degree into the performance side from the factory setting.

We've performed many 0-60 mph runs through the years with a 6.5TD. In general, a chipped/exhaust 6.5TD pickup will run in the 10 second range. We use a G-Tech Performance meter to record runs.
A 1994 6.5TD Chevy Blazer we owned a few years ago would run 0-60 in slightly under 9 seconds with just a performance exhaust system. Our 6.5TD K2500 Project truck produced 8.9 second 0-60 runs - which is near what a stock LB7 300 HP Duramax equipped truck produces.

Sounds pretty quick to me - with my AMG engine, 0-60 times are around 22-25 seconds. But then my motorhome is a svelte 16,000 lbs...

LOL, all relative , fast for a motor home. as long as you make up the grade fastern than walkin !!!!
I did the test to today with my lifted crew cab 4x4 dually on 35's, and I really never drive it hard but I ran it three times and the fastest was 9.7 and the slowest was 10.5 I hope this gives you some help.

Thanks very much everyone.
Based on everyone's response and me recording the time with my wrist watch, I guess I am not doing too bad with the 14 sec. on a Suburban with 4.10 Gears.
Jims technique with the G-tech unit is going to be the closest thing to real other than running it through the traps at the drag strip. ( G-tech will give repeatability and eliminate human errors and fudging :D )
My DaHoooley (95 3500 4x4 crew cab) will run in the low 9's and I am being generous here and not claiming more than what I feel is reasonable.
This was with a digital stop watch and I was running both the throttle and the clock so the pedal went down as the clock was started.
Not as accurate by any means compared to the G-tech but the big hog does scoot real well. If the road is at all damp it will send the duals screaming and the time goes right in the toilet. The runs I have timed were done with a power brake start and the turbo already up to 5 PSI when the brakes were released and as soon as the RPM's came on up the boost was at a steady 10 PSI
Its got big exhaust, a turbo master and a chip. 4.10 gears with the 4L80 and close to stock tires.
The DaHooooley weighs #7200 empty with fuel and driver.
14 is not bad for a stock Burb.

What have you done to your DaHooooley to improve the performance??
Any mods??

I have Heath Diesel Performance Combo Stage 3 kit ,4" exhaust ,2.25 hi flow cross over pipe,K&N intake, full gauges 3 pillar,hi output lift pump, and about 3500 in the tranmission. She run pretty good but not like my dmax.
did the stopwatch thing(finnally used a stopwatch on a mobile phone Opps cell phone, didnt think i would just another useless option on it) well the results are in 18secs so if any one can think of a valid reason i would love to hear it,also heavy on fuel about 14mpg
3,75 diffs i think
3in straight through no cat
new injectors 10000 k,s ago
285/75 b f good
timed with gps to allow for speedo error with tires
forgot to add
it has a centre mounted turbo not side mount
for the australian market the brake booster and steering coloum was in the road,so apparently it was taken from a chev van
could this be the reason
spec for motor at time of realise on the au market were 145 kw and 542nm

I try to keep the 0-60 times in the 98 K3500 at around 45 seconds. Freakin' diesel is 4 bucks per gallon!
CedarGrove -
I am right there with you.
/made me laugh, too.

That is a really nice looking rig JBAD. Hard to believe that it probally once looked a little like mine. If you don't mind me asking, how big are your rims and what kind are they. I am not entirely sure that I am going to keep mine.
