6.5 cranks by itself

I have a 6.5T is a 98 3500 Chevy van. I just completed a head and gasket job. How when I connect the battery termainals the relays for the inside lites click, in a few seconds the blower fan starts, and then the starter starts to crank. This happens with the key out. Also the DRL come on. Any ideas???? Please help

Let me be the first to welcome you to the Diesel Page! To get back to your question, you didn't mention whether you had done any wiring repairs while you had it apart. Did you? How about a bad ignition switch, try installing the key and moving the switch to the accessory position? Sometimes they can stick ''on''. Keep us posted, and good luck!

Make sure the large cable from the battery is not touching the small terminal on the starter solenoid.

allready checked the starter bolt. that was my first thought. did not do any wiring alterations. Will check the key when I get home.
